The tickets are purchased, the shots are being sought after, the Visa's are being applied for and the team is raising funds for the humanitarian aide trip taking place Oct. 8 - Oct. 31, 2013. Six months from now we will be on our way to the Ebenezer Life Center in Ahero, Kenya and it will take three days just to get there. Arriving on Oct. 11, each day is jam packed full of activities, work, sightseeing and getting to know the more than 500 children and widows who are dependent on this orphanage for their very existence!
Canada Day will be a day long celebration with a special meal that includes meat (sorry vegetarians but this is a special treat), games, music, gifts and much rejoicing and thanking God for this celebration. We would love to be able to give every child something from the heart of Canada and are asking you to donate generously so that we can purchase sweaters with the Canadian flag on them for every child, in every size and age range. They are readily available at the end of June before Canada's birthday on July 1st and we are hoping to have enough funds to purchase as many as we are able to carry with us to the orphanage. We will be buying candy in the local market so that each child will get a sweet treat from the Canadians For The Children of Africa!
These children have no family and depend totally on the goodness of the Ebenezer Life Center for their very existence. It is difficult to imagine a child going through life without any parents but thousands of children are in the same boat. In Africa, poverty, disease and war are the main reasons why children are becoming orphans. We believe that we are all called to take care of the widows and the orphans and that is exactly what we are trying to do at the Canadians For The Children of Africa.
The next fundraising event for this trip is taking place Sat. April 13, 2013 in Brockville, Ontario. Laurie Bowen, Owner and Executive Director of Arts For Life Psychotherapy, is offering Stress and Anger Management Workshops utilizing creative arts with some of the proceeds going directly to the charity. Sat. May 25th will be the 5th workshop in a series of 6 being offered in Brockville. Attendance at previous workshops is not necessary as each workshop is unique in its own way.
Friday, May 3, 2013 is the Ladies Charity Spa and Tradeshow taking place in Prescott, Ontario. Tickets can be purchased by filling out a contact form and/or at the door. Tickets are $30.00 each that includes admission to the tradeshow, silent auction and 2 mini-spa services. It would make a great Mother's Day Gift!
Please consider supporting our efforts to bring some joy and love into the lives of those less fortunate. Your donations and prayers are greatly appreciated. Stayed tuned for more updates as we get closer to our travel date of Oct. 8, 2013
